What equipment do I need?
In order to use the UniNet Dial-up facilities to access the Internet, you will need the following:
  • Computer - either a PC running Windows 95 (recommended), Windows NT4 or Windows 3.1/3.11, or an Apple Mac running MacOS 7.1 or higher.
  • CD-ROM Drive.
  • Modem - 14.4Kbps or higher recommended, or ISDN modem/terminal adapter. We currently support 64Kbps ISDN and all modem speeds up to 56Kbps (K56Flex standard).
  • Telephone line.

We supply all the additional software you will need on CD-ROM with the Start-up Pack.

What do I receive in my Start-up Pack?
The Start-up Pack you receive when you take out a UniNet Dial-up Account contains everything you need to access the Internet as quickly and as easily as possible. This includes:

  • CD-ROM containing a complete MicrosoftÒ Internet Explorer 4.0 software pack for Windows and Mac. This provides all the software necessary for Web browsing, e-mail, and newsgroups, and is pre-configured to make installation straightforward.
  • Getting Started guide.
  • Internet guides (on the CD-ROM).
  • Internet tutorials (on the CD-ROM).

In addition, we even provide you with your own customised web pages to get your personal web site running straight away - just fill out the form on our web site or send us an e-mail telling us a little about yourself, and we do the rest.

What does it cost?
Your UniNet Dial-up Account subscription comprises a one-off setup charge, followed by a fixed monthly, quarterly or annual charge. There are no extra charges, and no charges for time on-line - your subscription allows unlimited access to the Internet. All you pay in addition to your subscription is the cost of your telephone call whilst accessing the Internet - we give you a special local call number (0845) to dial, which is charged by your telephone company in the usual way. As an example, BT charge 1p per minute at weekends for calls to 0845 numbers. We also offer a money-back guarantee - if you are not totally satisfied within the first 30 days, we will refund your subscription in full.

What are my e-mail and web site addresses?
When you start your subscription, you will be asked to choose a subdomain name - this uniquely identifies you from all our other subscribers. The web site address for your free 5Mb web space will then be www.subdomain.uninet.co.uk, and your e-mail addresses will be of the form anyname@subdomain.uninet.co.uk where you can put any name at all in front of the "@" sign. Most people choose their surname as their subdomain, so, for example, Fred Bloggs might choose a subdomain name of "bloggs", giving him a web site address of www.bloggs.uninet.co.uk, and an unlimited number of e-mail addresses like fred@bloggs.uninet.co.uk, sally@bloggs.uninet.co.uk, info@bloggs.uninet.co.uk, etc.

What can I do once I am connected?
The potential of the Internet is really limited only by your imagination. Whether you want to surf the Web, design your own web site, carry out research for a project, keep in touch with your colleagues, friends and family by e-mail, or a host of other activities, your UniNet Dial-up Account will allow you to.

How can a UniNet Dial-up Account help my business?
More and more businesses are finding that a presence on the Internet is giving them a competitive edge, allowing them not only to expand sales opportunities but also to service existing customers more successfully. Once a novelty, a company web site and Internet e-mail facilities are now viewed as business essentials. A UniNet Dial-up Account provides the ideal starting point for getting your business onto the Internet, allowing you to use your business name as your subdomain name to give you professional web site and e-mail addresses.

Can UniNet help me produce my Web site?
Yes! As part of the Dial-up Account package, we will create and load a two- or three-page web site for you. Based on information you provide, this is intended as a set of starter pages to help get your web site off the ground and provide a basis for you to build on.

Your UniNet Dial-up Account subscription entitles you to unlimited access to our unique 24 hour telephone helpdesk. Available 365 days a year, our experts are always on call if you have a problem, or even if you simply need advice or guidance.
